Jennifer Stewart, DVM
 .

Dr. Jennifer Stewart graduated from the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 after receiving a dual major in Biology and Psychology focusing on animal behavior.  Academic interests included the study of comparative endocrinology, comparative pathology and bacteriology.

After graduation, Dr. Stewart participated in a private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada for three years working with specialists in surgery, dermatology, veterinary dentistry and practice management.  Joining a friend in Southern California, Dr. Stewart managed and purchased Rancho Del Oro Veterinary Hospital in Oceanside, California where she developed a strong relationship with her clientele and their amazing pets.  In order to focus on possible administrative roles or developing a specialty, Dr. Stewart sold Rancho Del Oro Veterinary Hospital in 2000.

Dr. Stewart has served the animal sheltering community in San Diego County and Orange County and participated with rescue organizations for animal care and placement in private practice.  Her continued interests include public health, infectious disease, animal behavior and the human-animal bond to promote the health and care of a pet for all life stages in a family.
Dr. Stewart met her husband, Scot Harrison in 1993.  They married in 1996 and have two children (identical twins), Catherine and Deborah.  Their home is full of animals— three cats, Gus, Rustle (it’s a job not a name), and (the truly amazing) Bat Girl, currently just one dog, Silly Putty, a yellow Labrador rescued from a shelter in Orange County—he’s pretty huggable when he’s not all wet from swimming.  They also host three California Desert tortoises and one African Hingeback tortoise, and numerous fish in the stock tank for the girls’ continual amazement.  The girls are disappointed to say that they have not been able to tame the gophers in the yard as pets but are excited to catch (and release) gopher snakes and alligator lizards, and observe the owls and Cooper’s hawks in our neighborhood.  Their family hobbies include road and mountain bike riding, running, hiking, reading (lots of reading!), sharing movies, music, and a love of nature.  Scot often hosts educational Bug Hunts for families and friends.

Jennifer and Scot have a keen sense of community and are continual fundraisers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through their volunteer activities and donations as well as animal rescue groups.  They hope to inspire their family, friends and staff by their actions to promote education and alleviate suffering in their community.
