dr jennifer stewart

Jennifer Stewart, DVM
 .

Dr. Jennifer Stewart graduated from the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 after receiving a dual major in Biology and Psychology focusing on animal behavior.  Academic interests included the study of comparative endocrinology, comparative pathology and bacteriology.

After graduation, Dr. Stewart participated in a private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada for three years working with specialists in surgery, dermatology, veterinary dentistry and practice management.  Joining a friend in Southern California, Dr. Stewart managed and purchased Rancho Del Oro Veterinary Hospital in Oceanside, California where she developed a strong relationship with her clientele and their amazing pets.  In order to focus on possible administrative roles or developing a specialty, Dr. Stewart sold Rancho Del Oro Veterinary Hospital in 2000.

Dr. Stewart has served the animal sheltering community in San Diego County and Orange County and participated with rescue organizations for animal care and placement in private practice.  Her continued interests include public health, infectious disease, animal behavior and the human-animal bond to promote the health and care of a pet for all life stages in a family.
Dr. Stewart met her husband, Scot Harrison in 1993.  They married in 1996 and have two children (identical twins), Catherine and Deborah.  Their home is full of animals— three cats, Gus, Rustle (it’s a job not a name), and (the truly amazing) Bat Girl, currently just one dog, Silly Putty, a yellow Labrador rescued from a shelter in Orange County—he’s pretty huggable when he’s not all wet from swimming.  They also host three California Desert tortoises and one African Hingeback tortoise, and numerous fish in the stock tank for the girls’ continual amazement.  The girls are disappointed to say that they have not been able to tame the gophers in the yard as pets but are excited to catch (and release) gopher snakes and alligator lizards, and observe the owls and Cooper’s hawks in our neighborhood.  Their family hobbies include road and mountain bike riding, running, hiking, reading (lots of reading!), sharing movies, music, and a love of nature.  Scot often hosts educational Bug Hunts for families and friends.

Jennifer and Scot have a keen sense of community and are continual fundraisers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through their volunteer activities and donations as well as animal rescue groups.  They hope to inspire their family, friends and staff by their actions to promote education and alleviate suffering in their community.

heather

Heather, Nursing Supervisor
One of the special talents that hides behind the scenes at our San Marcos Hospital is Heather, our nursing supervisor. If your pet has been in the hospital then they have surely given Heather a kiss on the face as a thank you for all her compassionate care. Heather has been in the veterinary field since 2000, and it shows in all the attention to detail in the care that she gives every patient. She has a special love for taking care of the critical patients and helping them as they struggle to pull through their illnesses. Fortunately being at Shadowridge veterinary hospital in San Marcos has allowed Heather to offer the top quality of personalized care and attention that each patient needs as opposed to some of the other high volume practices she had been at previously. " I like working at Shadowridge Hospital because I can get to know each pet and client and give them better care whereas before I was in a clinic where there were so many pets that we didn't even know their names."

When Heather was 5 she told her grandmother she wanted to work with animals and she feels proud that she was able to keep that promise!

Heather has a small zoo at home: a corgi named Nala, 2 chihuahua-mix dogs named Bubba and Moegley, a kitty named Stewart Little, and 2 red-eared slider turtles named Jimmy and Jane.

Cara, Nurse
Cara started her career with Shadowridge in October of 2008, but has been in veterinary medicine since 2004. Cara’s positive attitude and excitement about learning new things is contagious and makes her a pleasure to be around to both the clients and the staff.

Cara’s favorite part of working at Shadowridge is the bond we strive to have with each and every one of our clients and patients. She loves the opportunity to forge a relationship with the patients she treats and their parents and be an active part of their wellness and illnesses.

Cara loves that every day here is a new learning experience and is proud to say she loves her job!!

james

James, Nursing Assistant & Pet Care Specialist
James’ exuberant personality and effusiveness made him a prime candidate for our San Marcos location when we had an opening for a nursing assistant. James is excited and fascinated by the opportunity he has been given to be a part of our team and has shown his appreciation with a superior work ethic and unflagging enthusiasm everyday.

James grew up with animals and states this as the reason he became interested in working in animal medicine. Also, in his own words “the staff at Shadowridge Vet is awesome!!”

In his off hours James spends his time fixing up his truck and playing with his kitty “Smelly Cat” a domestic short hair mouser that lives at his grandmother’s house and studying up on animal restraint and husbandry.

Amy

Amy, Nursing, Reception and Pet Care Assistant
Amy’s infectious personality and love for life encouraged us to take her on as a volunteer after she retired from her previous career as a professional singer and entertainer.

You need only to spend a few moments with Amy to know that her love for animals is deep and profound. After seeing her amazing work ethic and how quickly she learned we offered her a paying position in our hospital. Since then she has become an integral part of this hospital and although we encourage her every day we will sorely miss her when she leaves us to enter Veterinary school which is her ultimate goal.

If you have children you might want to ask for Amy to be your nurse as she sometimes uses her training as an entertainer to occupy small children who have become bored with the veterinary process.

Amy has two pets, Bacon and Eggs, a terrier mix and kitty respectively. She also recently gave birth to a beautiful young lady called Eleanor who is the light of momma and daddy’s eyes.
